The Rub feat. Natalie Storm - Dutty Gyal (Proper Villains Remix)
Proper Villains has been on a roll lately. His recent release ‘Cape Fear’ got some prime time rinsing from none other than Skream & Benga on Radio 1, and we can’t get his remix of Down With Webster’s, ‘One In A Million’ out of our heads.
Without missing a beat, the NYC-staple is back with an official release for The Rub ft. Natalie Storm on ‘Dutty Gyal’. This track is just so different that we’re going to let him explain it to you in his own, self-proclaimed “awkward” words:
Ok, so this is a remix I did for the Rub (DJ Ayres & DJ Eleven). I’m not gonna lie, this is like the weirdest song I’ve ever made. I got into edm/dance music from listening to bootleg ragga-jungle mixtapes back in the day and I wanted to make something with current sounds, but that captured the vibe of that first experience. I’ve always loved the juxtaposition of stuff that sounds really “street” like dancehall & hip-hop with futuristic elements. To me it’s a sound that’s timeless. New yet old. Kinda like how in the first Star Wars movie the Millenium Falcon was this crazy futuristic spaceship, but it was all old and beat up and held together with ducktape…
We can dig it. Can you?
