Duke Dumont – Hold On (ft. MNEK)

Posted on Jul 12, 2013 in Chill, Deep House, Soul

Borderline dance music, “Hold On” dives into emotional depths left largely untouched by mainstream EDM.

Guided by the striking lyrical outpour from MNEK, Duke Dumont layers a somewhat gloomy choir and heavy drums on top of a classic house beat. MNEK makes sure to instill some hope amongst the initial darkness though as his voice soars to a peak as the track progresses. Even if you prefer songs more upbeat, you have to appreciate the thought and correlation between the music and title which is quite obviously lacking these days. Duke and MNEK are in touch with their softer, more thoughtful side here, and the result is a gorgeous piece of whole-hearted music.

This shouldn’t come as too much of a surprise though as Duke’s remix of HAIM’s “Falling” this past spring was similarly enchanting.

“Hold On” isn’t going to rock your weekend, but it will leave an impact on you. There’s no release date yet, but take a listen in full below.
