Destructo - Higher EP

While Gary Richards may be best known for his legendary HARD parties from coast to coast (and even into international waters on Holy Ship), he’s not simply a tastemaker of top quality dance music. Under his Destructo moniker, he’s put out tracks that blur the lines between funky house and banging techno, and his latest EP, “Higher”, is no different.

Debuted on the HARD Summer trailer last month, “Higher” has been one of the most anticipated tracks of the season, with support from the likes of Dog Blood during their massive Coachella set. It’s a death-to-genres track, with a wonky bassline that would suit a daytime pool party just as much as a peak hour main stage.

First on the remix duty is Tommy Trash, who keeps the orchestral breakdown but trades the deep undertones for a relentless barrage of electro stabs. Also included is a Brodinski remix that throws in an 808-infused hip hop beat before dropping into harder techno vibes.

Not to be ignored on the release is “2112”, another Destructo track co-produced with U-Tern. Holy Ship veterans will recognize this walking bassline groove from 2014’s Divina preview, but whether it’s a new sound or not, it’s great to finally get the full version.
