Daft Punk - Get Lucky (Beats Antique Cover) [Free Download]
While opinions about the new Daft Punk album have been pleasantly divisive (even among us here at ICGYH), and there is an argument to be had over whether or not Random Access Memories is technically “EDM”, I’m pretty sure we’re all in agreement on at least one thing the lead single “Get Lucky” was not - country. Until now, of course.
The Beats Antique down-home cover of “Get Lucky” is as refreshing as homemade ice tea, and could as well be enjoyed on a shady porch on a humid summer’s day. A breezy Charles Butler banjo leads in the almost unrecognizable melody and the song strolls away, adding a Beats Antique kick but careful never to abandon its lethargic and comforting drawl. Although it’s more electric-bluegrass than country (on the topic of genre semantics), this mix is way further from “EDM” than Random Access Memories was ever claimed to be.
Coming from Beats Antique, I can’t say I’m too shocked. They play out some of the most interesting tunes you’ll hear across any genre, and with live instrumentation. Even if you just like that this is different, test your taste on the rest, especially if you’re heading to Electric Forest later this month where they’re helping lead the marching band.
And if you really want to embrace your inner Dixie, check out the full acoustic banjo rendition by Charles Butler. Now that’s down-home.
Download Free via Beats Antique’s Bandcamp.
