Le Youth – C O O L (Remixes) [Preview]
Summertime, and the living is… breezy. LA-raised artist Wes James, aka Le Youth, uses his sunny surroundings as inspiration for his productions. His sound is self-described as a blend of house music and “Clinton-era R&B”; it’s deep while still fun, retro without sounding old-fashioned, and about as laid-back as a roof-top pool party. Le Youth’s newest single, “C O O L,” pulls the chorus from singer Cassie’s 2005 hit “Me & U” and takes it from coquettish to summer tropical, laid over a smooth bass-line that gets people grooving at a pretty steady pace. It’s been making its way onto dance-floors for a couple months now, but it will finally be seeing a proper release on July 2nd through iTunes; though his R&B edit won’t make it onto the record, it is as much a baby-making slow jam as you could get.
Chiming in with a remix of his own is Ben Pearce, who incites anticipation as the song starts out light, progressing gradually into chopped vocal samples and soothing piano chords, finally dropping into the bass-line, turning the tropical disco sound of the original into some bona fide deep house. This song is also laid-back, but in a different way: it sounds just slightly more grown-up and sexy. Pete Tong gave it a spin on his radio show over the weekend. This one has its own release on Ultra Records, and is now available to purchase on Beatport.
The original mix of “C O O L,” the R&B edit, and the Ben Pearce remix are ready for streaming below. Enjoy!
