Dusky – Careless EP [Full Stream]

Dusky’s gone and done it again: after massive releases on Anjunadeep, Naked Naked, and Simple, the duo return to Will Saul’s label, Aus Music, for their Careless EP, a four-track record of their signature, deep-reaching melting pot music, a fuse of techno, garage, and house that is just begging to smash dance-floors worldwide. ICGYH gives you a chance to stream the EP in full a week before its September 30 release date:

“Careless” shows off the pair’s penchant for samples (that we can never figure out, I might add), as well as a deep bass-line backing swirling synths and bells that give a floating, ethereal contrast to the hardness of the bottom notes. “Rising For Love” errs more toward fat techno with some more R&B vocal samples. It’s much more brutal, with notes pounding and raking at the ears—melodically, of course—while piano chords help balance out the roughness. The personal highlight of the record is “Esperanto Juggler,” which is essentially the giant fist of the Music God coming down HARD on the dance-floor, intent on wiping everyone out with their signature bottomless bass-line that just pounds you into the ground. The shakers and horns give this a unique feel from the rest of the EP, like Dusky are on their Quasimoto flow. The closing track is “Words Later On,” with a beginning that sounds like someone clanging around a pot with a giant spoon, before heading into a jacking rhythm with chopped vocals and a familiar muffled foghorn.
