Lana Del Rey – Young & Beautiful (David Dann Gatsby Remix)

Posted on Jun 4, 2013 in Big Room House, Progressive House

Lana Del Rey’s song “Young & Beautiful,” featured on The Great Gatsby soundtrack, gets the remix treatment from LA-based DJ/producer David Dann in a Gatsby-inspired interpretation. The film’s tale of deep disenchantment and childish naiveté masked by opulence is mirrored by a combination of Del Rey’s voice, dripping with velvet sorrow and nostalgia, and Dann’s use of dark notes and echoing samples; the latter of which in its own way reflects the lyrics of longing for the past. The atmospheric synths that almost scrape and grind into each other in the background add an element of haunting tension, relieved by rich, light piano chords. The progression in this song is subtle but effective, making for a song that provokes emotion yet is fit for the dance-floor.
