Dirty South - Essential Mix 15.03.2013

Posted on Mar 18, 2013 in Big Room House, Essential Mix, Progressive Disco

If you’ve had a moment to breathe since sifting through the awesomeness of Ultra Weekend 1 sets posted up left, right, and centre, don’t forget about the weekly staple of the Essential Mix, which hosted Dirty South last week. Less than two weeks after premiering his full-length album to the world, Pete Tong and the BBC Radio 1 crew gave the Australian titan producer/DJ a turn on the prestigious Essential Mix decks, his second time doing so.

Throughout the two hours, Dirty South delivers the full, uplifting sound so common to his productions. A balance between custom mashups, stinging progressive from the likes of Ummet Ozcan, Alex Kenji & Federico Scavo, as well as unreleased bombs from Pryda and Jacques Lu Cont. Still, there is probably no better finishing touch to the mix than the final track, a funky downtempo tribute to Ajax, who tragically passed away earlier this month. While the music may sway the emotions of its listeners, its hard to fight chills in the intro part of the mix when Dirty South talks about his dear friend. A true veteran in both substance and style.
