#ThrowbackThursdays DJ Brisk & Trixxy - Eye Opener

Posted on Dec 6, 2012 in #ThrowBackThursdays, 90s, Hardstyle

This one goes back all the way to 1997. Released on Slammin’ Vinyl, “Eye Opener” is a true rave classic and a personal favorite.

This DJ Brisk & Trixxy record is evidence of a clear change of the times. While the neon-colored clothes and glow-paraphernalia of raves have endured, the music associated with them has changed dramatically.

The supersonic BPM and euphoric synths coupled with the pitched-up vocals make this ’97 track a pure Happy Hardcore anthem sure to sound out of place with most similarly dressed crowds today. This is interesting given that rave gear is now common at shows of the often slower Bass and Dubstep genres.

Happy Hardcore has dwindled dramatically in popularity over the past decade, but it’s one of the older roots of the current EDM scene that shouldn’t be forgotten. You can buy this track on Beatport and iTunes although theses versions are slowed down slightly.

Also, listen for the Method Man and Redman sample “pointed at your temple with the intent to kill” taken off the single “How High” from 1995.
