Sanfuentes – Bodytalk EP [Preview]
Last November, I Can Give You House bore witness to Chilean producer (and Comeme label co-founder) Sanfuentes’ HARD debut at Day of the Dead, where he opened the festival with headliner-like fervor. For an hour, his energy-filled mix of jackin’ house, acid and heavy techno drilled through the crowd, with his last, then-unidentified track setting the dance-floor ablaze before sending its inhabitants stumbling off to the next set on their schedule.
Now we can finally put a title to the track: “Bodytalk,” by Sanfuentes himself. The producer recently announced the impending release of the song on his self-owned label, Sanfuentes Records. The release follows his Heatwave EP, which found support from the likes of Mumbai Science, Tensnake and Dimitri From Paris.
The title track essentially sums up Sanfuentes’ HARD DotD set in a nutshell: a serious party-starter that packs a lot of heat. The corrosive, acidic bass-line just rips through the body as carnival-sounding synths weave themselves around it, giving way to an ominous breakdown while Sanfuentes’ echoing vocals hang in the air. Its accompanying remixes are plenty: Harvard Bass expands on the carnival synths in a more house-y take, while Friendly Fires’ Jack Savidge lives up to his namesake. Djs Pareja and Roman & Castro both err toward the dark side, and Andre II puts out the hardest techno of them all. On the B-side is another Sanfuentes original, “For Those About to Jack,” a hard-hitter with filtered, echoing vocal stabs made to penetrate the dance-floor. Definitely prime for peak-time.
Of the EP, Mario Cotto of KCRW said it best: “A stunning range of emotions here. From menace to ecstasy. From smile to sneer.” Listen to the track previews below, and catch Bodytalk when it drops on March 18.
