Pedestrian – Hoyle Road (Spectrasoul Remix)

Posted on May 22, 2013 in Drum n Bass, Smooth Jams

Whether you’re in the midst of finals or finally kicking back for the summer, here’s a little slice of liquid drum n bass to tide you over for the latter half of the week (because Wednesday and Thursday are really just Almost-Friday, anyway). Spectrasoul are one of my all-time favorite duos in the drum n bass arena for their ability to transform what I initially perceived as a savagely noisy style of electronic music into individual melodic, soulful, silky masterpieces without sacrificing the defining qualities of D&B. Their membership on the roster of one of the genre’s most respected labels, Shogun Audio, solidifies their status as top-notch, while their music can almost certainly captivate, if not convince, non-believers of drum n bass.

After staying relatively quiet following the release of their most recent LP, Delay No More, the UK duo appear on Pedestrian’s Hoyle Road remix EP, released on James Zabiela’s Born Electric imprint label. Spectrasoul converted “Hoyle Road,” originally a deep house track, into their signature style, with a forceful bass-line and chords that ascend into the high heavens. The subtlest sounds turn the song into a gritty atmosphere of its own, while the smoothness makes it easy on the ears.

The Hoyle Road EP can be purchased on Beatport, but you can stream the Spectrasoul remix below.
