Celebrating 20 years of Soma Records

Posted on Sep 21, 2011 in 90s, Baby Makin, Compilation Album, Dance Floor

Pop your bottles, pioneering dance music record label Soma Records is celebrating its 20 year anniversary with a mind blowing compilation of some of their classic hits, featuring a hallowed roster of iconic heavy hitters. And yes, I DID just steal the word ‘hallowed’ from Pete Tong, and i’m still trying to figure out a way to make ‘enigmatic’ fit into this post. I digress. This compilation is ridiculously smooth. You know how much I love that bone zone playlist shit. Well, this compilation saves you the trouble of even having to make a playlist, cause all of it is straight fire. I mean, I was about to name drop, and then I found myself literally listing every single artist on the track listing. Icon status all around.

As if these classics weren’t already enough, Soma just casually includes an EXCLUSIVE PREVIOUSLY UNRELEASED DAFT PUNK TRACK on the compilation. I repeat, EXCLUSIVE PREVIOUSLY UNRELEASED DAFT PUNK TRACK. Okay, seriously, if you haven’t pitched a chub by now, there is something very wrong with you. (If you have are a girl, this obviously does not apply to you… hopefully). Rumor has it, this bad boy, fittingly titled “Drive Unreleased 1994″, was originally sent out with ”Rollin’ and Scratchin’,” but somehow ended up just sitting around the fucking Soma offices for over a decade, just chilling, casually forgotten about until its eventual recent rediscovery. While I kind of hate the fact that I was deprived of this until now, its soooooo good that I can’t remain an angry bitch over it for too long. So, behold the masterpiece that is “Soma Records 20 Years - Soma Classics”. Classics indeed. And as I always say, respect the classics. And by that I mean buy it on Beatport.
