Angel Haze - Battle Cry (MK Remix)

Posted on Jan 28, 2014 in Deep House, Remixes

A modern music pioneer has returned. Though he may currently be somewhat of a secret… people are starting to take notice.

His latest remix “Battle Cry” from Angel Haze and Sia reaches far back to the days of rolling beats that set the influential house DJ known as “MK” in motion. The deep house remix is kept fresh by well-placed vocal edits, and the old school vibe works genuinely with Angel Haze’s rhymes. This pairing does make the empowering vocals sound a bit robotic, lessening their effect, but the solid lyrics make up for it. And Haze’s history of strengthening herself when she was feeling suicidal by listening to her co-vocalist Sia is enough backstory in its own right.

MK may be one of the most important people in modern music. He has remixed the B-52′s to Lana Del Rey, teamed up with pop stars from Jay-Z to Rihanna, and has worked with Quincy Jones amongst countless others (of course, we wouldn’t want to bog you down with his full recording history including 200-plus remixes). Take it from Felix of Basement Jaxx - “MK - A true innovator and originator, a pioneer of true deep house.”

His decorated history may be mostly in the past, but now with “Battle Cry” and his popular remix to Storm Queen’s “Look Right Through”, it’s time to go back to the future. ”It seems like the classic house sound is getting really popular again” he says, “so now seems like the perfect time to come back to it.”

“Battle Cry” will be released on March 10th.
