David Guetta - Shot Me Down (ft. Skylar Grey)

David Guetta busts out his secret weapon - Nancy Sinatra - as the pair set off on a spree across the airwaves.

Ok, so technically the co-conspirator here is Skylar Grey but she’s just following Sinatra’s 1966 single “My Baby Shot Me Down” word for word (Though Sinatra actually covered the track herself - originally by Cher). While I’m name dropping, Grey’s endearing but troubled tone could also be compared to Lana Del Rey. It’s quite the whodunnit.

Like many tracks that use the same technique, “Shot Me Down” is catchy if only because of the source material. Then again Guetta isn’t just going to stop at catchy. The superstar Frenchman drops the track into generic festival electro, but only after an intense and impressively smooth transition out of the vocals. As small a part as it might play in the track time-wise, it’s actually this build that makes the track a success. There’s also some nice vocal reworking which adds a good amount of character and fun to the mix.

There’s no doubt Guetta is bumming off Sinatra, but when a catchy classic is seamlessly blended with the intensity of modern electro, it’ll go over like gangbusters. And Guetta will be making out like a bandit. Get in on the action below and pick it up on Beatport.
