Miguel Campbell – Beams of Light EP (Preview)

The first time I ever heard of Miguel Campbell was in the summer of 2011: my friends were recounting their many late-night adventures in the sweaty, sunny streets of Los Angeles, partying until the early hours on the Standard rooftop in Hollywood with some of the world’s grooviest DJs. They directed me toward a YouTube video of Hot Creations label-heads Jamie Jones and Lee Foss tag-teaming, and blasting from the speakers was a song so sexy, so sultry, so groovy and catchy that I couldn’t get it out of my head for days: “Something Special” by Miguel Campbell. My love affair with deep, sexy summer disco had begun.

Hot Creations and Campbell have teamed up once again to bring the Beams of Light EP to the masses just in the nick of time for another hot, majestic summer. The title track, a self-described “sensational slice of modern disco,” slips in some barely audible chords in the background that are reminiscent of “Something Special,” and was actually featured on Campbell’s debut album, Back to Flight School. The groove is undeniably deep and relaxing, yet still inspires slow motion, eyes-closed, look-to-the-heavens disco-dancing. The song comes accompanied by two remixes: a digitized, futuristic version by Alexis Raphael, and a sunrise-tropical version made for spiritual island-dancing by Crooked Man aka DJ Parrott.

Beams of Light is scheduled for release on May 20th, but you can preview the EP below.
