Conjure One feat. Leigh Nash - Under The Gun

Here is a little something different for you from Armada Music- the new release from Conjure One called “Under The Gun.” Press play and soak into the original mix, but don’t get too comfortable because you are going to want to get up and dance to the remix, also out on Armada.

Conjure One is the electronic music project of Canadian producer Rhys Fulber. Before going solo as Conjure One, Fulber was involved in the electro-industrial group Front Line Assembly and ambient/worldbeat electronic act Delerium. If you’re a true house fan, you probably just said, wait, Delerium… why is that familiar? Remember that song “Silence” with Sarah McLachlan? Perhaps you have heard the track Tiesto produced- a popular In Search of Sunrise Remix of Delerium’s “Silence.” (Go ahead, click on the link! Consider that my throwback Thursday gift for you

Conjure One’s latest track “Under The Gun” is some beautiful, chill progressive house. The track starts off with a heartrending violins over some floating, ambient electronic sounds. A ripping bass comes in with some worldbeat-style electronica just before the vocals. Leigh Nash’s vocals enter the song and you feel like they are holding something back, there is a certain nervousness and unsteadiness that goes along with the lyrics. Then when the emotive chorus hits, you feel the pain you felt coming in her voice, suspicious and downtrodden, “Someone watches me, under the sun, under the gun.”

I have to include the Rank 1 remix of this new track. It was featured on Armin van Buuren’s A State Of Trance podcast, so of course the Dutch trance group Rank 1 turned the chill original into something you can dance to. The integrity of the vocals, strings and guitars, and overall feel of the song stays in tact, however just after the chorus, like any solid trance remix of a slow song, the massive MASSIVE bass hits you. The vocal sample “under the gun” repeats a few times and honestly, it sounds like a battle in my head. Between the upbeat dancey beat, the sad violin sound, and the fact that someone is saying “under the gun” …I think this would be a great song in an action movie where someone is being chased.
