The International Music Summit has just announced that artists WILL.I.AM and Giorgio Moroder will be joining the conference in Ibiza from May 23-25 in person, and Danny Tenaglia will be linking in live from NYC.

The BEP pop star gone DJ, WILL.I.AM will be discussing his transition from Hip-Hop into Dance music, and where he is taking his personal career. You’ll also be able to catch him perform live at the IMS Ibiza event on May 24, alongside David Guetta, Minx, Paul Oakenfold, Goldfish and Diplo.

House music legend Danny Tenaglia will join the conference via a live video feed to discuss his departure from live performance, and more on his career. I’m excited to get an opinion on the current state of and future of Dance music from such a veteran in the game.

Lastly, Giorgio Moroder will be at the festival, in person, to discuss and share his views on the industry. Like Danny, I’m excited to hear Giorgio’s opinion on the music at the moment.

LA based Rock group Kiven is back with another amazing remade version of one of their original tracks, “The Blur Ensues.” I’ve been a long time fan of Kiven for their rock, but grew a new found love for the band back in December when they launched their remix project and broke into Electronica. They have even been moving towards a live remade project, and in recent shows have been performing these remade tracks, it’s too sweet. Here is a smashing new single entitled “Chronos” from Danish producer Felix Hargreaves. As one half of the Electro duo Mensura, Felix broke into the top 20 of the Beatport Breaks chart, and Top 100 overall last year. His production style is electro and bass driven, but has a refreshing rock influence, I dig it. The single is the first release from a brand new label called the White Buffalo, and is set to be released on Beatport on May 23. German born, producer and DJ Thomas Gold is the latest to join a long line of artists to have remixed a track of Miike Snow‘s latest album Happy To You. Attempting to improve and outperform The Wave is no small feat but Gold outdoes himself with this latest work. On par with Wolfgang Gartner‘s remix of Paddling Out, Thomas Gold introduces the right amounts of house infused beats while still highlighting the components of the track that make it unique. With much focus on maintaining the track’s identity while still increasing the overall pace and addictiveness of the piece, Thomas Gold has provided us with an impressive and enjoyable remix.

Danish DJ icon and longtime I Can Give You House favorite, Morten Breum, has finally released the smash hit we’ve all been waiting for ever since it was featured on his episode of Electronic Spotlight. “Larva” is finally here, and it is just further confirmation that Breum is a force to be reckoned with. Much to no one’s surprise, the big-room club banger is quickly scaling the Beatport charts, sitting at #21 on the Progressive House chart and #86 on the overall Beatport chart at time of press. Epic, uplifting, and melodic, “Larva” is nothing short of incredible. But I mean, I would expect nothing less from the prolific talent who was named “Best Danish DJ” three years in a row…and that’s just scratching the surface of his accolades.

After witnessing his unforgettable and energetic headlining performance at XS Las Vegas earlier this year first-hand, I am convinced that everything this man touches is gold. I highly advise you to purchase “Larva” on Beatport, and continue to build your Morten Breum collection in your iTunes library, because we have a legend on our hands. Since December of 2010, the legendary producer BT has had a weekly mix show on Sirius XM‘s Electric Area radio station called Laptop Symphony. The title is perfectly indicative of what BT‘s mixes are all about: they’re not simply one track jammed into another repeatedly until the end of the mix; but, rather, they’re perfectly composed pieces of art, with expert flow, stylistic diversity, and always his trademark emotional core.

So, I, like many other fans, was very excited to hear about an official album release of Laptop Symphony‘s greatest hits. Pulling tracks from all his previous shows, the new two-and-a-half hour mix is a culmination of what has made BT‘s radio show great to this point. Screaming out of the gate with his unbelievable Adam K collaboration Tomahawk, an inspiring tune that switches between beautifully euphoric progressive house and angular dub drops, Laptop Symphony takes us on a journey through BT‘s unorthodox–but positively amazing–mixes.

A bit of electro dominates the first part of the mix, with Savoy‘s Kili and Wolfgang Gartner‘s funky Ménage á Trois. Being no stranger to genre mixing, though, BT works his way through nearly every major and minor style of electronic music in the past decade: pulling in dubstep with Xlient‘s atmospheric Choose Me II, funky French house courtesy of BeeJays‘s Blender, and dirty Dutch from golden boy R3hab‘s remix of DJ Spoko & Mugwanti‘s Latin-inspired Mugwanti, the first half of this Laptop Symphony megamix explores a wide variety of sonic influences and particularly focuses on what’s popular today.

The second half mixes things up even more. Continuing to think outside the box, BT includes a straight hip-hop track: Damn! by Youngbloodz, with the ubiquitous Lil’ Jon, serves to break up the heavy electro beats that dominate much of the first half of this mix. Jumping right back into EDM, Figure‘s Boogie Man rides the fine line between dubstep and drum n bass. Funky moombah track Robo Booty by Opiuo blends elements of dub and reggaeton in a style that was all the rage last summer. In an interesting dubstep remix of Cosmic Gate & JES‘s recent single Flying Blind, Killbot War Paint incorporate heavy bass oscillation with JES‘s signature beautiful vocals.

At some point, however, you just know BT has to break into something more familiar to his trance fans: following the hard-hitting dubstep of Flying Blind, the dreamy progressive trance of Andrew Bayer‘s Counting the Points seems that much sweeter and smoother. Continuing with the washed-out feel that makes much of modern progressive house so appealing, Matt Lange‘s That Much Higher blends subtle elements of trance, house and techno together in a minimal downtempo track with a spacey, atmospheric vibe. Of course, no recent BT mix would be complete without some version of the smash hit In the Air, his summer 2011 collaboration with Morgan Page, Sultan & Shepard and Angela McCluskey, formerly of dreamy downtempo pop group Télépopmusik. Mord Fustang‘s funky electro remix of this tune has been very popular in clubs since its release, and it makes a great appearance here on this mix as well.

Flowing through a couple more beautiful tunes, we end up at Myon & Shane 54‘s incredible euphoric Summer of Love mix of BT‘s A Million Stars, with Kirsty Hawkshaw–the driving force behind the artist’s early hit Dreaming. This mix is a hard-hitting modern trance tune, with big synths and an undeniable summer feel. Trance prodigy Ashley Wallbridge is present here with Vision, a stunning progressive trance tune with prevalent 90s influence. Also notable is Arty‘s remix of Ferry Corsten‘s Punk, an anthemic electro track quite far removed from Arty‘s dreamy trance style, but still reminiscent of the Russian wunderkind’s signature style. Anyone who’s seen BT live knows that he likes to reserve Swedish House Mafia‘s legendary hit Save the World for his own sets; though the track is pretty played out at this point, it makes sense that he would include it in a Laptop Symphony recap.

Rounding out the album is a hard-hitting trio of very hard-hitting tunes: the electro-influenced Dennis Shepard remix of Allure‘s On the Wire, featuring the wonderful British vocalist Christian Burns, segues nicely into Hardwell‘s techy big-room remix of Tiesto & BT‘s Love Comes Again, which in turn gives way to a new rework of BT‘s classic trance hit Flaming June–presupposing the remix pack of this new track coming out in a few weeks.

BT make some of the strongest, most unorthodox, and yet best mixes in the EDM world today. Never afraid to pull influence from any number of forgotten or unexpected styles, BT‘s mixes are as diverse as they are inventive. His live show is definitely one to behold, and the Laptop Symphony album gives quite an accurate representation of what his sets sound like. Definitely keep an eye on this one–BT has three more albums coming out this year: a new ambient experiment named If the Stars are Eternal so are You and I; an 80s synthpop project with Christian Burns called All Hail the Silence; and, of course, an EDM followup to the legendary These Hopeful Machines, due out in late summer on the juggernaut that is Armada. Hot off the heels of a recent album release, German duo Cosmic Gate are continuing to redefine the modern trance sound. Breaking onto the scene in 1999 with the classic tune Exploration of Space, many consider Cosmic Gate to be the founding fathers of hard trance—a faster, more aggressive, yet still extremely euphoric style of trance music, that has gained a lot of popularity around the world, particularly in Europe.

Weaving various single releases alongside remixes of popular tracks and 4 previous artist albums, Cosmic Gate just released a shimmering new hard trance album, Wake Your Mind, last October. Featuring collaborations with industry heavyweights like JES, Emma Hewitt, Myon & Shane 54 and Andrew Bayer, Wake Your Mind delivers a wide variety of sounds and feelings, from Cosmic Gate’s classic deep hard trance to some more house-inspired tracks—but always with massive euphoric drops so characteristic of modern trance.

Making yet another appearance at Denver’s Beta Nightclub, Cosmic Gate played on a warm, breezy Thursday night to a crowd of trance fans and club staples. No strangers to Beta, Cosmic Gate certainly drew a large gathering of people out on a Thursday. Residents Ecotek and Trajikk started the night, building energy and getting the crowd ready for the main event.

Opening with Eric Prydz’s now-infamous remix of M83’s incredible synthpop tune Midnight City, Cosmic Gate jumped behind the decks to spin a two-hour set with some amazing music. Other tracks featured included an interesting mashup of Arty’s Around the World with the ubiquitous vocal from Justice’s We Are Your Friends, a true crowd-pleaser; Porter Robinson’s positively radiant new release Language; and the duo’s own incredible remix of Jochen Miller’s Wild and Perfect Day, with an outstanding vocal by Sarah Bettens.

Truly the highlight of the evening, however, came at the halfway point: queuing up the massive single Be Your Sound, Cosmic Gate had the entire crowd singing along with Emma Hewitt’s beautiful vocal in the breakdown—the only thing that was missing were hundreds of lighters in the air! Breaking into a techy section of the set, Cosmic Gate decided to switch it up and go a bit lighter and more accessible for this brief part of the set—but it didn’t take long before they switched back to hard-hammering trance bangers. Playing Ronski Speed’s Run To the Sunlight, as well as the duo’s recent JES collaboration and single Flying Blind, Cosmic Gate slid into home with W&W’s intensely dark and tech-inspired ASOT550 anthem Invasion, ending the night’s well-rounded trance set on a very high note. I would have loved to hear the breezy and euphoric Barra—also featured on the duo’s new album—and crowd favorite Not Enough Time, another Emma Hewitt classic.

Cosmic Gate continues to forge ahead in the modern trance scene, delivering captivating and uplifting music with a deep, dark edge. Wake Your Mind is truly an excellent album, and the duo’s world tour is just beginning—I highly recommend you check them out at a show near you! Check out some more photos of the event below.
