Jack Dixon – Those Questions EP
To commemorate the launch of his new label, White Asega, UK producer Jack Dixon released a 6-track solo EP last week, entitled Those Questions. Always riding the fine line between house and techno, Dixon is said to have found his inspiration for this EP from a bout of insomnia undergone in the frigid winter seizing his native Berlin.
Those Questions encapsulates the darkness of winter nights with ominous bass and haunting, at times verging on demonic-sounding, vocals in tracks such as “Park Row”; yet it also manages to capture the shining, magical light of the city through groovy house rhythms that ebb effortlessly throughout the collection of songs. Those Questions is the aural manifestation of insomnia itself, starting out evenly, almost casually, with “Heirloom,” weaving in and out of the unnerving eeriness and euphoric delirium that characterize chronic sleep deprivation, before finally leveling off at the end with “The Things I Gave You.” It would be a nightmare to sleep on this EP, which you can stream and/or buy through bandcamp at a price of your own choosing.
