Feed Me’s Escape From Electric Mountain

I can say with pure conviction that Feed Me is my favorite bass music producer. Not only is he one of the strongest engineers out there, but his music is wonderfully unpredictable and unique. Thus, a new EP from the surreptitious green monster is nothing less than a pre-Valentine’s Day orgy for me. Feed Me’s Big Adventure and Feed Me To The Stars were both spectacular works and Feed Me’s Escape From Electronic Mountain effortlessly follows suit. This EP boasts a vast array of eclectic tracks covering the edm gamut, from progressive and electro house to dubstep and moombahcore (read: electro house at 110 bpm). In order:

1) “Trapdoor” - This record is just gushing with UK swag. Featuring well-known grime artist, Hadouken!, this 170 bpm dubstep goliath throttles unrelentingly from start to finish. The vocals are delivered perfectly and are precisely woven into the mix. And the drop… oh the drop…

2) “Relocation” - In an astonishing change of pace, Feed Me presents us with this dark and mellow progressive house tune. For someone who got his start producing some of the most hardcore drum n bass out there, it’s almost impossible to believe that he made this track. It’s probably my least favorite song on the album, but I’m amazed nonetheless. I did however, appreciate the reappearance of the melody from “Blood Red” at the tail end of track.

3) “One Click Headshot” - Next genre up to bat, moombahcore! Although this isn’t really moombah in any sense apart from the rhythm, that in no way lessens its impact. If you like any of Feed Me’s other stuff, you’ll love this track. It’s got all of his signature gnashing basslines and grinding synths in their finest forms, as well as some melodic vocal cuts. I like this one more every time I listen to it. Oh and for those of you wondering, the long vocal sample is from this.

4) “Embers” - Pushing back the tempo to standard electro house, we get yet another completely different track. The tone of “Embers” is wildly diverse. At almost seven minutes long, it starts off somber and melancholy with tender vocals provided by Lindsay. Around a minute and a half in, it presses forward emotionally until it drops out completely into one of the most interesting drops I’ve heard. It’s a combination of the sounds (and lack there of) and stereo field technique that make it so distinguished. There’s a shallowness and vacancy that are totally offsetting but undeniably catchy. The last two minutes of the track round off expertly with a reintroduction of the vocals and s smooth, synth-driven ride to the end. Genius.

5) “Trichitillomania” - It’s honestly baffling how varied this album is. This track is a complete departure from any kind of melody or mainstream progression. It’s got strong influences of both techno and glitch and is one of those tracks you can just get weird to.

6) “Whiskers” - To cap everything off, Feed Me gives us this straight up dubstep monster, featuring Gemini. In his usual fashion though, the track is dynamic and has some great movement throughout. The first half has a much more electro feel, while the second has got a slower, old-school pace so you can just thizz out like you know you want to.
