Five Artists To Watch In 2012

As this year comes to a close, we can look back on 2011 as a huge year for dance music. As the EDM community grew drastically, talented artists cranked out hits to meet the demand, and certainly did not disappoint. 2011 was a huge breakthrough year for some of our favorite artists, and as 2012 approaches, the time has come to keep an eye out for some of the talented EDM artists who will emerge into absolute superstardom in the coming year. I would first like to preface this post by saying that these are my personal picks, and they are not necessarily representative of the views of all my fellow I Can Give You House staff members; However, I am confident that my fellow staffers would agree that these artists all have big things on the horizon for 2012. These artists have each absolutely blown me away this year, and I am so excited to see what they have in store for us in the upcoming year.

1. Nicky Romero

Nicky Romero is by no means any stranger to the EDM spotlight, and rightfully so. I would begin to list the superstar DJ/producers that support his work, but that list seems to be never ending. But if we’re gonna name drop, it may as well be the world’s most popular DJ. David Guetta cited Nicky Romero as 2011′s breakthrough performer of the year when DJ Mag crowned him as the #1 DJ of 2011, but I think he is just getting started. “Toulouse” is Romero’s latest smash, but 2011 was chock full of hits for the incredible producer. I mean, we are talking about the man who single handedly made “Cameras ready, prepare to flash” one of the most popular phrases in the EDM community when he remixed Green Velvet’s “Flash”. And who could forget his other hits like “Camorra”, “Bootcamp”, “Beta” with Hardwell, and his remix of Guetta’s “Without You?” There is no denying that 2011 was a massive year for Nicky Romero, but I firmly believe that 2012 will be an even bigger year for the Dutch producer. For now, check out “Toulouse” if you haven’t scooped it already.

2. Deniz Koyu

These days, it’s nearly impossible to come across a set by a major DJ that doesn’t contain a Deniz Koyu song. Swedish House Mafia, for instance, dropped “Hydra” during their massive Madison Square Garden show earlier this month. When I first heard “Tung!” this summer, I immediately knew that Deniz Koyu was going to do big things. Shortly after “Tung!” came “Hydra,” followed by his massive remix of James Blunt’s “Dangerous” with Johan Wedel, and finally, the smash hit “Hertz” this fall. Like Nicky Romero, Deniz Koyu definitely made quite a name for himself in 2011. But what’s most exciting about Koyu is that I can tell we can expect even greater things from him in 2012. I recently had a discussion with one of my fellow I Can Give You House staff writers about Koyu, in which I made the claim that 2011 was Koyu’s breakout year. My co-worker disagreed with me, stating that while 2011 was undeniably a huge year for Deniz Koyu, there is something promising about Koyu that leads him to believe that this talented producer is just getting started. After hearing that logic, I agreed completely. There is something special about Koyu that you can feel when you listen to his work, and I believe that 2012 will be the year that Deniz Koyu embarks on a journey towards becoming a household name.

3. Nari & Milani

If you are hesitant to believe that Nari & Milani are the future of dance music, then I have one word for you: “Atom.” Yes, “Atom” was THAT song during the Swedish House Mafia Madison Square Garden set that made everyone watching literally stop what they were doing in absolute awe of the banger that they were listening to. “Atom” is not set to be released for months, yet it is already being dubbed one of the biggest bangers of 2012. With “Atom” Nari & Milani leave no doubt that they will be taking the EDM world by storm. So fasten your seat belts, and prepare for Nari & Milani’s reign. I absolutely loved “Kendo” when it was released this summer, and I have always expected big things to come for Nari & Milani. I could not be more excited to see the contributions that Nari & Milani will be making to the world of EDM in 2012.

We are all anxiously awaiting the release of “Atom,” but until then, here is “Kendo” to get yo dick wet.

4. Dyro

Dyro is kind of my wild card pick. I hadn’t known about him until recently, but he is an undisputed dance music prodigy. I’m predicting that Dyro will be the Alesso of 2012, and will absolutely blow up in the upcoming year. I just dedicated an entire post to him, and I still have more to say about this guy. In case you missed the other post, here is a little summary. Dyro just released a new EP called “Metaphor/Magno” on Hardwell’s Revealed Recordings (and might I add that EVERYTHING that has been coming out on Revealed has been mindblowingly impressive). Dyro has earned the support of some of the biggest names in the industry such as Hardwell, Tiesto, Afrojack, Dada Life, David Guetta Thomas Gold, Angger Dimas, Tommy Trash, Moguai, Morgan Page, Hard Rock Sofa to name a few. The bottom line is this guy is definitely one to watch in 2012. In case you missed it, here are Metaphor and Magno.

5. Special Features

It’s no secret that all of us here at I Can Give You House are huge fans of Special Features. Special Features straight up stole my heart with his incredible remix of Deadmau5′s “Strobe.” Recently, he was announced as the winner of Dada Life’s “Happy Violence” remix contest. His remix will be released on So Much Dada. Not too shabby, being personally selected by Dada Life as the best remixer of their song. Special Features is like Midas–everything he touches is gold, and all of his tracks are infused with his infectious signature style. All signs indicate that 2012 will be a huge year for Special Features, and on that note, I leave you with the Special Features remix of “Strobe”. This remix received an extremely positive response from our followers when we initially posted it, and I trust that this time will be no different.
