For those of you who were lucky enough to attend Swedish House Mafia’s sold out show at Madison Square Garden last night, I am jealous of each and every one of you. Thank god for the live feed, you know I was glued in front of my computer screen for two hours straight. I really didn’t know what to expect as far as track selection for their set, but overall I was pretty satisfied considering the circumstances. My favorite from the evening was hands down “Antidote.” The track is a collaboration with Knife Party, which is a side project consisting of Pendulum’s Rob Swire and Gareth McGrillen and was officially released on December 16th. I was a huge fan of Pendulum well before I was into EDM (“Slam,” anyone?), and I like the direction these guys are taking with Knife Party.
“Antidote,” has an aggressive build up that drops with a shit ton of energy, which is pretty characteristic of a SHM release. The Knife Party guys add more power to the tune with their already characteristic synth sound and the repetition right after the drop gives the feeling of being in a Mortal Combat video game (or maybe that’s just me). This one goes hard so I suggest it is played at very high volume on some speakers that have good bass, none of that ear bud bullshit. Enjoy.
