EDX At Marquee Las Vegas 11/11/11

This past weekend I went to Las Vegas. It was my first time ever in Sin City and I certainly wasn’t gonna hand over my Vegas V-card without having the time of my life. That’s where EDX comes into play. When I found out EDX was playing at Marquee Las Vegas on the Friday I came into town, I made up my mind and decided that I needed to be in attendance. Most people like reading books from beginning to end, but as for me, I always read the last chapter first-So i’m going to issue the following spoiler alert: EDX FUCKING KILLED IT.
I’m gonna preface this by saying that although Vegas is a massive playground of happiness, shit got kind of hectic before the show and it took me a while to get there. I had planned to get to Marquee rather early, so I would have time to get settled in before EDX’s set, but naturally things didn’t go as planned and I got there a lot later than I wanted to and the whole game plan for our group had changed. And by the time I arrived Marquee, I was pretty much the grumpiest bitch ever. So as I sulked in the corner nursing a Long Island Iced Tea, I had already come to the premature (and false) conclusion that Vegas sucked ass and I assumed my night was ruined. And then EDX happened. Once EDX’s set started, I had started to slowly get more into party mode. I wasn’t fully on my A-game until about 20 minutes into his set when he dropped Deniz Koyu’s “Hertz,” at which point I was like “FUCK YEAH” and decided it was time to give in to the hypnotic musical stylings of EDX. Considering my mood at the beginning of the night, EDX getting me so hyped up so early into his set was a highly impressive feat. At that point, I knew I was in for a killer set.
EDX continued to mercilessly slay it on the decks with hit after hit after hit. His set went a lot harder than I had expected it would and I was thoroughly impressed. We had been sitting on the patio area for the first part of the set, but after about 30 minutes, we realized we had no choice but to enter the main room and engulf ourselves directly in the madness. EDX was like a fucking puppeteer, he commanded the crowd with his set, creating a hypnotic kind of groove throughout the room. He dropped Nicky Romero’s remix of Green Velvet’s “Flash” and everyone basically went apeshit. Yes, yes, I know “Nicky Romero’s ‘Flash’ remix is like, SO EDC 2011,” but I don’t give a fuck. I was super hyped on it when EDX dropped it so masterfully, and so was the rest of the crowd.
And then the greatest moment of my entire weekend happened when EDX dropped one of my favorite club banger classics of all time, Marco V’s “Reaver.” When those powerful chords hit my ears, I seriously lost my shit. I have never felt so compelled to dance my ass off in my entire life than I did at that moment. The entire set had been so amazing leading up to that, and “Reaver” just hit so hard. But it wasn’t just “Reaver,”–that was just the beginning of Kaskade’s brilliant mash up of Marco V.’s “Reaver,” Kaskade’s “Angel on My Shoulder,” and Tiesto and Hardwell’s “Zero 76.” Generally i’m not the biggest fan of mash ups, but shit, this one goes so hard, and “Zero 76′s” dirty pitch bendy drop has been playing non-stop in my head ever since.
EDX just kept dropping bangers throughout the rest of his set like nobody’s business. I honestly was so hyped up that I kept running around the venue saying shit like “murder on the fucking dancefloor!” accompanied by fist pumps. I’m pretty sure people were really stoked on my energy and enthusiasm over EDX’s set (or not).
Marquee is such a sick venue, and there were lots of dancers behind the DJ booth on these colorful light up platforms in different costumes, and it was really cool. People were really stoked on naughty Mary Poppins. As his set continued, EDX played lots of essential feel-good progressive house bangers such as Alesso’s remix of Nadia Ali, Starkillers & Alex Kenji’s “Pressure,” Armin van Buuren’s “Drowning,” and Deniz Koyu and Johan Wedel’s remix of James Blunt’s “Dangerous.” And I must admit that I had been somewhat indifferent about Avicii’s “Levels” until EDX dropped it late in his set at Marquee, and the room just erupted with absolute euphoria. That was another highlight of the night for me.
Overall, I give EDX’s performance at Marquee an undisputed A+. Thank you to the legendary EDX and to Marquee Las Vegas for an absolutely wonderful night.
Here is the mashup of “Reaver,” “Angel On My Shoulder,” and “Zero 76″ that absolutely blew my mind this weekend. You can download it for free on Kaskade’s Soundcloud page. See the player embeded below for easy download via the downward arrow button.
