So Much Love

In the late 70′s, the disco group The Real Thing released an infectious hit song entitled “Love’s Such a Wonderful Thing”. The song remained dormant in terms of relevance for several decades until 2002, when a funky french house duo by the name of Together released the hit track “So Much Love to Give”, sampling a vocal from “Love’s Such a Wonderful Thing”. The duo, comprised of DJ Falcon and Thomas Bangalter, released their track on Bangalter’s own record label, Roulé. If the name Thomas Bangalter isn’t ringing any bells for you, you might know him better as one half of Daft Punk. Do I have your attention now? So, if you’re gonna do a re-imagination of a Thomas Bangalter track, you better do it big, cause you’ve got big shoes to fill. (For the record, i’m calling both Bangalter’s “Trax On The Rocks Vols. 1 & 2″ for top 5 dance music albums of all time, and “Spinal Scratch” for one of the best individual tracks ever. The man is a living legend.)

“So Much Love to Give” went on to get re-made by several artists, most notably The Freeloaders. However, i’m a stickler, and for me they all just kind of paled in comparison to the original. For a while, I was convinced that there would never be a re-imagination of “So Much Love to Give” good enough do Together’s original version justice. And then I heard Fedde Le Grand’s. Fedde’s take on “So Much Love to Give” (Out now on Toolroom Records) is spectacularly produced and I dare say I think DJ Falcon and Thomas Bangalter themselves would be proud. And so, almost 3 and a half decades after “Love’s Such a Wonderful Thing” was first introduced to the world, we’re all still feeling the love, and Fedde’s carrying the legacy’s torch.
